Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero was an American model and singer. Kotero was also a co-star in Prince's 1984 movie Purple Rain. She is best known as the main character in the 1984 Prince Purple Rain film and lead vocalist in the girl group Apollonia 6 Apollonia was given the title of a female singer and actress by Prince. In the '80s she was among many other artists that benefited from Prince. Patricia Kotero began her acting and modeling career in Santa Monica California, in the late '70s. The first time she appeared was on CHiPS. The year 1984 saw her cast to play the lead female in the film Prince's Purple Rain. During that period, Prince changed his name. Also, she replaced Vanity and the duo Vanity 6 for the role. They performed as a trio on the movie under the name Apollonia 6 Sex Shooter was only a small achievement for the group however, she had an even bigger impact as Prince's duet partner with Take Me with You on the soundtrack. Kotero's relationship with Prince was ended after the two had an argument over her career direction. Apollonia 6, the group she was part of had a split. She was later seen in various minor roles throughout the period (reportedly not wanting to be as a character in The Purple Rain follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) prior to landing an appearance on the evening-time show Falcon Crest during 1985-1986. Apollonia was finally able to release her debut album in 1988. However, her comparatively tame collection of dance and R&B songs did not be a hit with those who bought music, and it soon disappeared out of sight. Apollonia continued to act (if somewhat unnoticed) throughout the following decade. Small TV appearances small films and workout videos kept her active. In 1997 Apollonia made a record in English and Spanish called Stay With Me. Following her return to the university she earned a bachelor's degree in filmmaking. Then she founded her own company.
